Our spreads are a must for breakfast and snack time for young and old gourmets. Since its creation, Le Comptoir de Mathilde has chosen to make its spreads without palm oil. Discover in this article why.
What is palm oil?
Palm oil is a vegetable oil extracted by hot pressing from the fruits of the oil palm tree—a tree native to tropical Africa.
It is ubiquitous in the agri-food industry: from margarine to sweetened beverages, and in most spreads. It is also used in cosmetics such as lipsticks and as agrofuel.
The main producing countries, Indonesia and Malaysia, dedicate thousands of hectares to palm oil production, resulting in primary forest destruction. These monocultures disrupt ecosystems and cause soil pollution due to the chemical fertilizers and pesticides used.
Palm oil also has adverse effects on health. It is indeed rich in saturated fats that promote bad cholesterol and increase cardiovascular risks.
Delicious palm oil-free spreads
At Le Comptoir de Mathilde, all of our spreads have been palm oil-free since the first recipe. We strive to provide the best possible quality for the pleasure of spread enthusiasts.
Palm oil is thus replaced by healthier vegetable fats such as sunflower oil (rich in fatty acids, omega-3 and 6, and vitamins) and safflower oil, an important source of omega-6, omega-9, and palmitic acid.
A natural reaction, phase separation may occur in open jars of spread after several days. It is a natural phenomenon that does not alter the quality of your spread. Fat will then rise to the surface of the jar. Simply mix to restore a homogeneous texture.
Available in various types of chocolates, textures, and flavors, our entire range of spreads is fully guaranteed palm oil and GMO-free to delight gourmets.
